代理商:大苹果 EGYPTIAN MUMMIES

页数: 160 定价: 9.99 英镑 上传日期: 2011-5-27

English Summary/英文概要: The author, a world authority on the subject, asks and answers all the most intriguing and frequent questions about Egyptian mummies: how and why they were made, who and what was preserved, which religious beliefs and sacred rituals lay behind the cult, and what fabulous treasures and tombs were created for the Egyptian afterlife? Drawing not only on the ancient evidence, but also on recent research and scientific findings - particularly at the British Museum - the author offers a stimulating overview of our current understanding, emphasizing the role of mummies in expanding our knowledge of ancient cultures. Along the way, he traces our enduring interest in and changing attitudes to mummies, regarded at different times and in different places as sacred effigy or collectors’ piece, as antiquarian curiosity or scholarly specimen, as museum treasure and cultural icon.
Lavishly illustrated throughout with vibrant images of Egyptian life and afterlife – many drawn from the British Museum’s superb collection of funerary treasures, coffins, amulets and jewellery - Egyptian Mummies offers an illuminating guide to the ancient Egyptian practice.

页数: 136 定价: 18.99 英镑 上传日期: 2011-5-27

English Summary/英文概要: When Christopher Robin Milne was given a Farnell teddy bear from Harrods, he didn t realise how much it would change his life. He named it after a real Canadian bear at London Zoo, Winifred or Winnie for short. And Winnie the Pooh was born. His father, A.A. Milne, created a series of books around his son s toy bear and its friends, not realising that this would destroy his relationship with his child. Or that Pooh himself would become a jetsetter, emigrating to America where he remains today except for a short visit back to his old home in Hartfield, Sussex, where he was to meet Shirley Harrison, the author who was to write his biography over 30 years later. This, then, is the story of the real Winnie the Pooh, the actual bear on whom Milne based his book. For the first time, those involved with the Milne family tell their stories and share their previously unpublished photos, including the day when Winnie the Pooh came home and played Pooh Sticks.
